Challenge

Like many other financial institutions, Wells Fargo Advisors has struggled with delivering centralized and consistent technology experiences to its back office. Many are using outdated manual methods and disparate enterprise information systems to manage critical Supervisory and Compliance-oriented tasks. This problem, in turn, has impacted operational efficiency, employee productivity, and overproduction and defects in reporting caused by human error.

The Goal

The objective was to develop a Supervisory and Compliance management system that would be useful in production environments. The research focused on uncovering target users’ attitudes, preferences, and technical requirements necessary to produce frictionless, functional, and valuable experiences. The ongoing effort involved several phases of user testing and usability testing in driving iterative changes. It also included validation of designs continuously and testing the rollout of new and enhanced features to the prototype to ensure it satisfied brand standards and ADA Standards for Accessibility across all media.

My Role

On this project, I worked as the User Experience Researcher, and Interaction Design Consultant focused on understanding the application’s end user’s needs, goals, fears, behavior, and leveraging the design process to build, test, and iterate to deliver fulfilling experiences. I also worked alongside the lead design, project sponsor, and product manager to ensure that research efforts aligned with the broader business goals.

The studies were conducted in a scaled agile environment in intervals ranging from two to ten (10) weeks with goals as follows: 

  • Facilitate identification of critical problems, points of pain, and opportunities for improvement using ethnographic research methods such as contextual interviews, user interviews, and fly-on-the-wall observations.

  • Understand user types, priorities, and use cases through participatory whiteboarding ideation exercises e.g. experience diagramming, journey mapping, personas, and prototyping.

  • Evaluate how prototype designs, content structure, and features meet user needs through evaluative methods.
